Mr. Zhong joined Guangdong inspection and quarantine bureau in 1994 where he specialized in tasks related to analysis and research of food and food packaging in the Food testing laboratory. He then joined IQTC, formed by a merger of various government laboratories in 2009. In 2015, he became the Director of National reference laboratory for Food contact material (NRL-FCM). In 2008, Mr Zhong was involved in a FCMs programs at JRC-CRL-FCM of Europe Commission in Italy as a visiting scientist.

Currently his main activities are involved in migration methodology and risk assessment for food contact materials. In 2014, he was invited by the National Health and Family Planning Commission to join the WG of Secretary Committee for National Food safety Standards and take the main responsibility to draft Chinese legislations for food contact materials.
He is now leading the team to draft various National legislations, which include Multilayer materials and articles, Paper and paper board, wood and bamboo, Inks, as well as various analytical methods on specific migration.

In 2015, Mr. Zhong was selected as the Chairman of the expert committee for food contact material, China food industry association, assisting government agencies and industry to fulfil the legal compliance with technical approach, such as training campaign, compliance guidance and the Symposium for safety of food contact material taking place on a regularly basis in China.
