In his role at Scion, Alec has hands-on knowledge of working with New Zealand companies to create, manufacture and use bioproducts. Working towards a circular bioeconomy, his team use synthetic biology and other tools to replace petrochemical products with more sustainable solutions.
Alec is a member of the executive council for BiotechNZ and also NZ section of APPITA. Before joining Scion, he led one of Europe's largest synthetic biology programmes, developing new polymers using biotechnology. With more than 40 patents and experience working with world-leading biotech companies, Alec brings a unique insight into the science, materials, and technologies of the future.
