Gabriel leads the Network Development team in the Eastern region of Powerco’s electricity network. The team is responsible for planning the electricity distribution network to meet the growth and security requirements of the region. He was the Technical Lead for Powerco’s innovative Whangamata Battery Energy Storage System project, New Zealand’s first utility-scale islanding-capable solution that provides backup supply to the Whangamata central business district in the event of an upstream network outage. Originally from Singapore, Gabriel has extensive experience in power systems analysis over the last 17 years and previously worked in consulting and in R&D with a wind turbine manufacturer overseas.
