CEO, thinkstep-anz

Barbara’s passion is to enable organisations to succeed sustainably. As CEO of thinkstep-anz, a locally owned business, she often describes her job as a translator – translating sustainability into traditional business language. Together with her team she delivers a full range of sustainability services from strategy and materiality assessments through to detailed Life Cycle Assessments and Cradle to Cradle® projects.

For over 20 years she has worked with organisations in New Zealand, Australia, Asia and Europe. She has a PhD in forestry from the Technical University in Munich, is the founder of Life Cycle Association New Zealand and initiated the Australasian EPD Programme.

Barbara chaired the New Zealand working group for ISO standards for carbon footprinting, is on the steering group for the Climate Leaders Coalition and is a member of several Technical Advisory Groups.
Under her leadership, thinkstep-anz become a B Corporation, set an approved science-based target, and became Zero Carbon certified. They also became a Technical Supporter of the Australian Circular Economy Hub and an active Supporter of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures.
